Assign Users to GroupSpaces

by Matt Blair last modified April 04, 2006 17:14 UTC

Setting user permissions with the GroupSpace Roles tab

GroupSpaces (the actual product name is GrufSpaces) adds four roles at the Zope level:

  • GroupVisitor
  • GroupMember
  • GroupLeader
  • GroupAdmin
For more details on the permissions we've assigned those roles, see this document.

To add users to a GroupSpace:
  • Have a site manager add the user if they aren't in the system already.
  • Go to the GroupSpace you want to manage, and click on the Roles tab.
  • In the 'Assign role to User' section, enter a name (partial works) and click 'Perform Search'.
  • In the list of 'Available Members', put a check next to the user you are looking for - but make sure any other results are unchecked - then select the role you want to assign to that user, and click the 'Assign Selected User(s) to Role' button.
  • If you want to give a Plone group permission on a folder, use the 'Group search results' section of the Roles tab.

The instructions above assume that GroupSpaces is configured for 'user search' and 'group select'.  You can change these settings by clicking the 'Preferences' link, and then clicking the 'GrufSpaces' link on the lower left of the page, under 'Add-on Product Configuration'.

Note: There is a permissions problem with the email tab in GrufSpaces 0.6. As of March 2, 2006, we do not have a workaround.
